Webinar Series: The Human Rights Implications of the Trump Presidency

Filling the Gaps: Human Rights Funders and the Global Gag Rule
May 3, 2017, 11:00 am EDT (other time zones)

Co-Sponsored with Funders Concerned About Aids (FCAA), Funders for Reproductive Equity (FRE), and Philanthropy Advancing Women's Human Rights (PAWHR)

IHRFG is hosting a series of webinars examining funder responses to the global challenges presented by the new U.S. Administration. These webinars will set the stage for our July 2017 Conference, when funders will convene in New York to collectively strategize on how to open civic space and counter rising authoritarianism.

The first webinar in this series will examine the Global Gag Rule, which prevents U.S. government funding to NGOs that provide abortion counseling, referrals, or advocacy—and restricts access to contraception. This rule will result in a gap of over $600 million in reproductive, maternal, infant, and child health funding globally. How are governments, private funders, and grantees working to fill the funding gaps?

Speakers include:

  • Amanda Gigler, Director of Philanthropic Partnerships and Communications, Mama Cash- Moderator
  • Aram Schvey, Senior Policy Counsel, Center for Reproductive Rights
  • Nike Buijze, Policy Officer, Sexual and Reproductive Rights, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Netherlands)
  • Marta Royo, Executive Director, Profamilia Colombia
  • Yifat Susskind, Executive Director, MADRE
